RIP

Right after Gerry Garcia died, which was I guess back in 1995, an old friend of mine called me with an idea. He said that since the Grateful dead was in deed now dead, that a new group would soon take it's place. This new band was Phish, and the one thing fish didn't have was artwork to peddle. That's what he came to me for. Well anyway, we didn't get very far into our master plan, whatever that was. But I did do this funky drawing for what back then was one of their most popular songs, "Run like an antelope"

I remember the day quite well. i had in fact just had a portfolio interview for doing puppet repair work late in the production of James and the Giant Peach, for twitching image.

I'd taken a bus up to san fransisco from L.A... had no place to stay after the interview, so had slept in this little secluded park above height ashbery.. only to come down the hill next day to "Jerry's DEAD!" cries and a huge chunk of folk clustered around a telephone pole next to a Ben and Jerry's.

(^ nice artwork btw.. so what you doing NOW?
